About This Course
The Childcare & Early Childhood Development programme prepares learners to provide safe, professional and inclusive care for young children. Blending child development theory with hands-on caregiving practice, the programme equips learners to nurture children’s growth during their most formative years; whether in a daycare centre, a school-based early learning setting, or a home-based childcare enterprise. Graduates gain the knowledge, patience and practical skills needed to support children’s health, safety, learning and wellbeing, while also building the operational know-how to manage a childcare setting responsibly.
Learning Objectives
Early Childhood Care & Development — child development stages, age-appropriate activities and creating a safe, stimulating learning environment.
Daycare Operations & Management — the day-to-day running of a daycare or early learning centre, including routines, record-keeping and parent communication.
Child Nutrition & Safety — planning balanced meals for children, food hygiene and safety practices, and basic first aid and accident prevention.
Child Growth & Learning Support — supporting cognitive, social and emotional development through play-based and structured learning activities.
Professional Caregiving Skills — professional conduct, communication with parents and guardians, and child protection and safeguarding basics.
Inclusive Care for Children with Special Needs — recognising and supporting children with diverse learning and developmental needs in an inclusive setting.

Requirements
- Open to youth and adults aged 16 and above with a genuine interest in working with young children.
- Basic literacy is required. Given the responsibility of caring for children, HVLC may wish to confirm additional suitability criteria (such as a background check) before placement.
Target Audience
- Graduates are prepared for roles and enterprise opportunities including: Daycare Centres • Early Childhood Education • Professional Caregiving • Childcare Enterprise. This includes working as trained caregivers or daycare assistants, supporting early learning classrooms, or establishing and running their own daycare or childcare service.
